Last fall, employees and the entire community were invited to sign the last beam and “leave their mark” before the final piece of steel was installed on the new hospital building. In addition to the signed beam, there are other special and permanent remembrances inside the walls of the new structure. Our construction crew installed plaques in memory of hospital and community champions, Dr. Peter Buck and Ben Haug. The late DR. BUCK , who had deep ties to the Moosehead Lake region, made a transformational gift to help complete the $6.2 million capital campaign supporting the historic modernization project. The hospital and ambulance garage will be named in honor of the Buck family. A SPECIAL REMEMBRANCE FOR LATE CA DEAN CHAMPIONS

BEN HAUG , who passed away on October 24, 2022, was a longtime trustee of the Charles A. Dean Trust and a former Scott Paper executive. Mr. Haug led the Trust for many decades and directed annual support to the hospital including the Preserving the Promise capital campaign. The Charles A. Dean Trust, named in honor of the former president of Hollingsworth & Whitney paper company and hospital namesake, was established to support the communities where Hollingsworth &Whitney, and later Scott Paper Company, employees lived and worked.
