That’s what Northern Light Mayo and CA Dean Hospitals have experienced since Mayo Hospital joined CA Dean as a member of Northern Light Health in 2020. Now, Piscataquis County’s two hospitals are collaborating to provide patients with access to comfortable, private rooms more quickly, as close to home as possible. When two hospitals share resources and expertise, good things can happen.

Mayo Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) and Medical/Surgical Unit (Med/Surg) have been very busy lately. Sometimes, patients who need a Med/Surg bed wait hours or even days in the ED for one to become available. Some of those patients can now transfer to CA Dean Hospital to get a private room right away. “While patients are well cared for in the ED, they appreciate getting settled into a private room quickly,” says Dave McDermott, MD, vice president and senior physician executive. “An inpatient room is the best setting for them to rest and recover, and it’s great that we can now offer faster access to this care right here in Piscataquis County, as close as possible to patients’ loved ones.”
