Building for Maine's Future

Building for Maine's Future

Building for Maine’s future

W hat is it that makes Maine special? Ask anyone who lives here, and they would agree that it’s the way our communities come together – neighbors helping neighbors – in our times of need. Whether you’re deep within Maine’s remote wilderness, along our rocky coastline, or somewhere in between, we’re always working to ensure you have access to the healthcare you need. Over the course of four years, through challenging and uncertain times, we’ve remained committed to investing in the communities we work and live in, building and modernizing five facilities to provide state-of-the-art healthcare for you. All five of these projects – renovating and consolidating Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland, new hospitals in Blue Hill and Greenville, a renovated birthing center and patient rooms in Ellsworth, and a state-of-the-art pediatric inpatient wing at Northern Light Acadia Hospital in Bangor – are more than just brick-and-mortar buildings. They’re community resources that will not only benefit you and your loved ones now, but future generations of Mainers. Commitment to Our Communities

Within these pages is a glance at how this investment is helping make healthcare work for the people of Maine.

Convenient Care in One Location

W hen Northern Light Mercy offering patients increased access in Maine’s largest city, it split services between two campuses. By consolidating those services at our Fore River location, and expanding our offerings, our team has been able to enhance patient access by offering services in one convenient campus setting. Located at 175 Fore River Parkway in Portland, our modernized campus offers new services and features, including a new imaging center and Emergency Department, additional private patient rooms, and the Lunder Building, which is home to a new outpatient specialty and surgery center. Hospital opened its Fore River Parkway location in 2008,

“I checked into the ER … Everyone I encountered was warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I received fantastic care. They helped me follow up with a specialist this morning. Fantastic people and fantastic care! Thank you!”

New Birthing Center Expands Access in Ellsworth

“I had my son Waylon here, and my experience at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital was amazing. The midwives and the doctors really take the time to take care of their patients and go the extra mile. Being able to have that brand-new space in OB will make everything even better.” – Ashley Newman, New Mom, Medical Assistant, Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital

I n January 2023, Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital fulfilled a dream, opening our new birthing center that is spacious and comfortable for both patients and staff. The Dixon Family Birthing Center was specially designed to meet the needs of birthing parents and families, enabling labor, delivery, and postpartum care to occur all in the same private room. The new birthing center also opened up the opportunity to expand and redesign our medical-surgical unit, creating a quiet environment with mostly private patient rooms to truly promote healing.

“With the upgrade, there is a calm, spacious, refreshing feel. There is ample space to work, move about the room, and help patients get out of bed without bumping into furniture. I feel, along with many of my colleagues, that we have a much more positive environment for patients and staff.”

– Amy Peronto, RN Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital
